Geography Situated in Mekong Delta, Soc Trang is surrounded by Tra Vinh, Vinh Long, Hau Giang, Bac Lieu and East Sea. There are 72km seaside, two river mouths and 30,000ha alluvia ground.
Influenced by oceanic weather, the province has two seasons: the rainy season lasts from May to November and dry season lasts from December to April next year. Annual average temperature is 27ºC. Annual rainfall is 1,840mm
Tourism Soc Trang is covered by vast rice paddies, shrimp lagoons, luxuriant fruit gardens like longan, rambutan, durian, and orange.
Viet (Kinh), Khmer, Hoa ethnic groups live together here. The province has 89 pagodas of Khmer group, 47 pagodas of Hoa people. Ma Toc (Bat), Khleang, Chruitim Chas, Chen Kieu, and Buu Son Tu (Set) are famous pagodas.

1) Historical & Cultural Vestiges
Location: Dat Set Pagoda (Buu Son Tu) is located on Luong Dinh Cua St., Soc Trang Town, Soc Trang Province. Characteristics: This pagoda is visited by many local and foreign tourists who come to burn incense and to see the display of precious clay items, such as the thousand Buddha statues and the four sacred animals (dragon, unicorn, turtle, and phoenix).
Location: Doi Pagoda is located on Le Hong Phong St., 2km from downtown Soc Trang, Soc Trang Province. Characteristics: The pagoda is famous for its beautiful architecture, especially its very large roof that houses tens of thousands of bats.
Doi Pagoda (Bat Pagoda) also called Ma Toc Pagoda, or Mahatuc Pagoda was built during the 16th century, and it has been renovated several times since. The pagoda is famous for its beautiful architecture, especially its very large roof that houses tens of thousands of bats. They cling to tree branches all day, fly away at night to seek food, and return the following morning. The bats never eat the fruit in the garden. An ancient Buddha statue and a number of Buddhist books written on sugar palm leaves can be admired there.
Location: Khleang Pagoda is situated at 71 Mau Than Road, Group 5, Ward 6, Soc Trang Town, Soc Trang Province. Characteristics: Khleang Pagoda is one of the most ancient pagodas in Soc Trang, features an architectural style similar to the pagodas of Cambodia. Built in 1533, it was originally made of wood with a roof thatched with palm leaves. The pagoda was later reconstructed with brick, and the roof was covered with tiles. The pagoda consists of a central chamber and a range of wooden stilt-houses, used as places for holding traditional ceremonies and for housing the pagoda’s monks. Additionally, there is a tower containing ashes of the dead, a cremation chamber, a guesthouse, and the Pothi School for teaching the Khmer language. The Khleang Pagoda also houses writings from ancient books, which tell about the origins of Soc Trang and the pagoda.
2) Scenic Landscapes
Location: My Phuoc Islet is located in the middle of the Hau River, in Nhon My Commune, Ke Sach District, Soc Trang Province; about half an hour by boat, 10km from Ke Sach small town. Characteristics: My Phuoc Islet (also called Cong Dien or Bun Islet) has many tropical fruit frees. The river islet, which is in a refreshing and cool area with a beautiful river landscape, is an attractive tourism spot in Soc Trang Province.
3) Cultural Travel
Time: In the evening of the 14th day and the 15th day of the tenth lunar month. Place: In the yards of the pagodas or of the residents' houses, ngo boat race in the Maspero River (Soc Trang Town). Objects of worship: Moon deity. Characteristics: Moon worshipping ceremony, floating lights on the water, ngo boat race. Participators: The Khmer people in the South, the Hoa and the Viet people. Ooc-Om-Bok Festival is a religious service that worships the moon deity of the Khmer minority group and prays for good luck, happiness, good weather and bumper crops. The festival is usually held when the dry season begins and rice are ripening on the fields. The Moon-worshipping ceremony takes place on the evening of 14th of tenth lunar month before the moon goes to the top. The ceremony is held in the yards of the pagoda or of residents’ houses. People erect bamboo poles with a crossbar on which they decorate with flowers and leaves. Below is a table of offerings that include green rice flakes, potatoes, bananas, coconuts, grapefruits, oranges and cakes. People sit on the ground with crossed legs, clasping their hands before the altar and look up the Moon. An old master of ceremonies says his prayers, asks the moon deity to receive the offerings and bless people with the best. After the ceremony, the elders ask the children of the house sit flatly on the ground with crossed legs before the altar. The elders then take a handful of green rice, feed each child and ask them what they wish while clapping their backs. If the children answer the question clearly and politely, all the best will come to them that year. After that, people enjoy the offerings together, and children play games or dance and sing in the moonlight. Anyone who visits the Khmer’s houses on this occasion will be tasted com dep (a kind of young sticky rice). At the pagodas of Khmer people, locals hold paper-lantern releasing into the sky and putting on the rivers. The custom of releasing flying lights and floating lights is believed to sweep away the darkness, impure and sadness from the village. Many traditional activities of the Khmer are organized on the evening of 14th.
Time: The middle of the third lunar month. Place: My Tu District, Soc Trang Province. Characteristics: Cau an (long for peace) ceremony of the Khmer and entertainment.
4) Ecological Travel
Location: Binh An Tourist Resort is situated at No. 71, Ward 2, Soc Trang Town, Soc Trang Province; by the Highway No. 1A. Characteristics: This resort resembles Dam Sen Cultural Park in Ho Chi Minh City, but in a smaller scale. Coming here, tourists have opportunities to join many recreation and entertainment activities. The tree-lined road system, the network of swimming pools, fishponds and other facilities are well arranged. That’s the reason why this resort is suitable to tourists, with their different tastes and hobbies. Behind the gate lies a man-made mountain 30 to 40 meters high. Atop the mountain stands a big statue of Avalokitesvara. At the foot of the mountain there are fishponds and paths. Inside the mountain is a mini hotel. Next to the mountain stands a two-storey villa built in the mixed Russian and Chinese architectural style, where wedding ceremonies, parties or banquets can be held. The Binh An Tourist Resort has stirred up the atmosphere of a peaceful town imbued with Khmer cultural identity in a province of the western part of south Vietnam.
Location: The sanctuary lies at Long Binh Commune, Nga Nam District, Soc Trang Province; 17km from Phu Loc Town. Characteristics: Over the past 20 years, this sanctuary has been home to thousands of storks. It has been recognized as one of the green tourist attractions.
